Case Study: Custom HCN Gas Detector for a Flexible PCB Manufacturer
A leading manufacturer of flexible printed circuit boards uses advanced production technologies to serve the global electronics industry.
Challenge
In its gold supply process, the customer uses potassium gold cyanide and was concerned about potential Hydrogen Cyanide (HCN) leakage. Because HCN is an extremely toxic gas, the customer required a fixed gas detection system for early leak detection.
However, the customer's engineering team had a special requirement: the detector housing needed to resist corrosion. Their existing 316 stainless steel equipment could also be affected by corrosion, so they initially considered a titanium alloy housing. The problem was cost. A titanium housing alone could cost more than the customer's target budget.
Solution
GasDog discussed the actual site conditions with the customer and learned that plastic materials were less susceptible to corrosion in the application. To control the overall cost while meeting the site's requirements, GasDog proposed a nylon housing instead of titanium.
For the HCN sensor, we selected an advanced sensor from the UK to provide the required detection performance and resistance to interference. The customer approved the customized solution and purchased 15 fixed HCN gas detectors. Before shipment, each detector was calibrated at the GasDog factory to help ensure accurate and reliable performance when the instruments were put into service.
Result
The customer successfully deployed the customized HCN detection solution and highly recognized GasDog's technical support and customized service.
The project demonstrated that an effective gas detection solution does not always mean choosing the most expensive material or configuration. By understanding the actual working environment, GasDog was able to balance corrosion resistance, detection performance, calibration requirements and cost to develop a solution that matched the customer's needs.
