Case Study: Online Ozone Monitoring for Cosmetics Production Safety

Ozone is widely used in cosmetics manufacturing facilities for air purification and disinfection due to its strong oxidation capability. However, excessive Ozone concentration can affect production environments and personnel safety, while insufficient O3 levels may reduce disinfection effectiveness. This case study shows how a cosmetics manufacturer implemented a fixed Ozone monitoring system to achieve continuous concentration monitoring and centralized management across multiple disinfection rooms.

Challenge

A well-known cosmetics company had previously used a GD200-O3 handheld O3 gas detector to monitor Ozone concentration during its disinfection processes. The portable device provided reliable measurements and helped the company verify O3 levels during daily operations.

As the company's purification project expanded, the facility required a more efficient monitoring method. In July 2017, the purification project team needed to install fixed O3 monitoring devices in multiple disinfection rooms across five floors of the production facility.

The main challenges included:

  • Continuous monitoring of Ozone concentration during disinfection operations.
  • Centralized collection of O3 data from multiple rooms and floors.
  • Real-time visibility of Ozone levels to improve operational control.
  • Ensuring measurement consistency between fixed monitoring devices and handheld detectors.

The customer needed a stable O3 monitoring solution that could support long-term operation in a large cosmetics production environment.

Solution

To verify system performance before full installation, we first provided the customer with a trial setup using a GD300-O3 fixed Ozone gas detector. After one month of testing, the customer compared the fixed probe readings with the existing handheld O3 gas detector measurements. The test results showed that the fixed O3 gas detector provided measurement data consistent with the handheld device, meeting the customer's accuracy requirements. Based on the successful trial, the customer purchased more than 20 sets of fixed Ozone monitoring equipment.

The final monitoring system was configured as follows:

  • Each of the five production floors was equipped with four fixed O3 gas detectors.
  • The O3 gas detectors were connected to 4-channel monitoring hosts.
  • Data from each detector was collected through RS485 communication.
  • An adapter converted the signals and transmitted the information to a central computer.

With this configuration, the customer could view real-time O3 gas concentration data from multiple disinfection rooms through a centralized monitoring platform.

Result

The fixed Ozone monitoring system significantly improved the efficiency and reliability of Ozone management in the cosmetics production facility. Compared with manual measurement using handheld equipment, the fixed monitoring solution enabled continuous monitoring without requiring operators to enter each disinfection room for repeated testing.

The centralized data collection system enabled production managers to monitor O3 concentration changes across different areas in real time, verify that disinfection environments remained within the required O3 range, improve safety management during Ozone-based purification processes, and maintain more consistent disinfection control throughout the facility.

The successful deployment also demonstrated that fixed O3 gas detectors could work reliably in multi-floor industrial environments requiring centralized gas monitoring.

O3 gas detection

Key Takeaway

For cosmetics manufacturers using O3 for disinfection and purification, continuous Ozone monitoring is essential for balancing disinfection performance and operational safety. A fixed Ozone gas detector with RS485 communication and centralized data management provides an effective solution for large facilities with multiple monitoring points.

By replacing periodic manual checks with real-time monitoring, companies can achieve better control of O3 concentration, improve workplace safety, and maintain stable production conditions.
